They didn’t think it through #2: Jailbreak

The opening and title track of Thin Lizzy’s enjoyable 1976 album Jailbreak begins:

Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak
Somewhere in this town

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess it’s going to be at the jail.

They just didn’t think it through.

  1. It’s actually about jailbreaking an iPhone. I always said they were ahead of their time.

  2. My band covered this song years ago, but we changed the lyrics to:

Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak
    Probably at the jail

  3. Nice work!

In Anne Heap of Frogs, we did The Boys are Back in Town, but never Jailbreak.

I suppose we could have been extremely witty, combined the two tracks and called it ‘The Boys Are Back In Jail’. Your guitar solo would then naturally have been the ‘Jail Break’. Sadly, we just didn’t think it through.

  5. This is an American song. With 1% of the population in jail at any time, odds are there are several jails in the typical town. Yes, the jailbreak will be at a jail, but which one.

  6. Richard: that would have been great. If only you’d thought of it 30 years earier!

kaleberg: your rationalisation is neat, but Thin Lizzy were an Irish band.

The story of my life, Michael…!
